- Asymmetry/Symmetry - things being the same or different on both sides
- Background/Middleground/foreground - spaces in the photo, foreground being closest to a camera, background in the back
- Camera Angle - the vantage point from which the photo was taken
- Cool Colors/Warm Colors - colors in art associated with temperature - blue, green, purple/orange, yellow, red
- Depth of Feild - how things in an image are focused and the distance between them

- Line - dividing spaces, or drawing focus to a particular area
- Negative/Positive space - empty/filled space in a piece that balances it out
- Pattern Texture - repeated texture
- "Rule" of Thirds - placing the subject in a single third of the piece to create a focal point
- Scale - the relative size of things in a piece
- Value - Range of tones from dark to light
- Value Contrast - lights and darks strongly contrasted
